written by 10308 Kim Chaewon In the final article of this five-part series, the Opinion section of the  PRESS  took an investigated look at how Japan's economy was dealing with the pandemic. Japan On September 16 th , the number of COVID-19 cases confirmed in Japan was more than 70,000, and the number of new confirmed cases in a day was more than 500. People in their 20s and 30s were the age group for infection. The number of confirmed cases per day reportedly exceeded 500 due to a recent increase in the number of new confirmed cases. Japan’s second-quarter economic growth has fallen tremendously (the annual rate was -27.8%), which was the worst that it has ever been before. It decreased by 7.8% from the previous quarter. The main factors which support Japan’s economy were individual consumption, but it decreased astonishingly (-8.2%). Italy Italy is known to have a very high mortality rate as well as confirmed cases for COVID-19. Italy has a whopping 12.6 fatality rate compared to China’s 5.4. How is Italy coping with COVID-19? On March 8 th ,  Italian Premier Giuseppe Conte expanded quarantine in all parts of Lombardia and northern Italy. The prime minister also extended quarantine inspections to all parts of Italy the next day. The movement of more than 60 million people was limited. This quarantine is one of the largest closures in human history. Premier Conte ordered the suspension of almost all commercial activities except for supermarkets and pharmacies on March 11t h to stop people from spreading COVID-19. The United States Currently, the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in the United States stands at 6.42 million. The reality is that about 40,000 people are confirmed every day, with the death toll standing at 192,000. About a quarter of the world’s total confirmed COVID-19 population is from the states alone. In other words, the United States’ response is important. This nation has more cases than China, the region from which COVID-19 originated from. The first confirmed case in the U.S. occurred on January 30 th  in Seattle, Washington.
