The New Trot Craze Era

Image
written by 20118 Lee Na Hyeon These days are known as the era of trot. Even if you go down the street, you will often hear trot music being played from the surrounding stores. However, trot was not originally a well-known music genre.  Middle-aged people with trot tastes were feeling somewhat alienated because the national broadcasting networks mainly aired dance, R&B, pop and idol music since the 1990s on the music charts. There were not many televised or radio opportunities for the middle-aged generation to enjoy trot performances unless they could find it live. Even trying to find a live performance was difficult since many people did not perform it.  However, with the recent introduction of audition programs, trot-oriented broadcasts have emerged. After seeing some of these programs, people wanted to hear more, so trot has gained popularity. The cultural perspectives started to change from the well-known music genres to lesser-knowns or the unknown. With more and more people sh

New Type of Communicating

written by 10803 Kim Eun Jae COVID-19 brought the world to a pause. Companies have been encouraging their employees to work from home during the initial outbreak. Schools were delayed at first, but it was forced to make a promise of educating their students somehow without a complete plan. After so many delays, in April, all the students in Korea could meet each other online. All the classes consisted of either non-face-to-face classes and video chats. The video chats can see each other’s faces and hear each other’s voices through Zoom.   Zoom was used in various places, as well as schools and companies. Even in broadcasting programs where the audience was supposed to be, Zoom replaced them.  A variety show called Comedy Big League not only showed gags to the audience through Zoom but also communicated with them to complete the stage. As the host was in the corner, he talked with the audience, referring to the screen written in numbers.  Since social distancing is being a part of at l

written by 10316 Shin Jaeyong Since 2018, Boeing 737 MAX has been banned from service because of multiple system failures and several crashes resulting in casualties.    What happened? This newest model was introduced to replace the Boeing 737 NG. The Boeing 737 MAX is thought to be more fuel-efficient and have a longer distance capability than its predecessor. The new technology was about new engines, new aerodynamic winglets, and the new MCAS system to compete against the Airbus’s A320 NEO.  The new engine is the CFM Leap-1B engine, which was the CFM 56-7 engine on the older generation. Typically, the new engine is more fuel-efficient. The MCAS system automatically controls the plane’s nose if the aircraft is too high or low while flying in high altitudes. It was made to help the pilots, but it was the actual problem.  The sensor on the MCAS system of the 737 MAX was not adequately organized. So that made the planes head toward the ground. Tragedy and Redemption  This model entered s

written by 10420 Lee Seungho What do you know about chess? Chess is a two-player board game similar to janggi. A few years ago, there were a few people interested in chess in Korea since not many people were not familiar with it. Now, the number of chess players is increasing, and more chess leagues are in Korea. Fundamentals  Played on a black and white checkered board with 64 squares arranged in an 8×8 grid, two players representing white pieces or black pieces try to out-think each other in a game of wits. In the beginning, each player has sixteen pieces: one king, one queen, two bishops, two knights, two rooks and eight pawns.  The objective is to create a checkmate by putting the opponent’s king in a location where it cannot escape. If you checkmate the king, you win the game.  Players create strategies and capture the opponent’s pieces to make a checkmate situation. It is essential to exchange a lower-valued piece for a higher-valued one. The king’s value is unlimited because you
