Abandoned Animals are adopted pets that are later casted aside.

Unfortunately, the number of abandoned dogs and also companion animals are increasing every year.

According to the Korean Animal Protection Management System managed by the Ministry of Agriculture, last year, 128,678 abandoned animals were lost in Korea. The number decreased by 4,827 (3.6%) from 133,505 in 2019, but it’s still a huge number.

Abandoned Animals Problems

In most cases of abandoned animals, which are dogs and cats, the biggest problem is animal abuse.

This year, it was reported that the cat someone raised was in a driving car for the reason of exercising.

Also someone had brutally killed a street cat and posted a picture of it on Instagram.

Those cases caused many controversies about abuse.

And from those lots of cases, the criticism between people is mounting over the social perceptions that do not value animal life and do not think seriously about animal abuse. Also, this is against the Animal Protection Act.

What Can Be Done?

Before you raise a pet, you should be responsible and environmentally prepared. Also, you should be prepared to provide financial support for your pets.

If this is not guaranteed, pets will not be able to be protected to the end.

There is a website (https://www.animal.go.kr) that tells everyone about lost animals, protecting animals, and animal-related industries. If you use this website actively, it will help reduce abandoned animals.
