June is the month to cultivate the spirit of the patriots. However, this June marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Provisional Government of the Republic. SAWLians wrote about the provisional government as an important historical turning point of the Republic of Korea.

In 1919, the Republic of Korea established the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai, along with the Hanseong Government in Seoul to work abroad. Until Korea's liberation on August 15th, 1945, people fought for Korean independence and freedom against Japan mostly in Shanghai.

The Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea was the first democratic Korean republic based on the division of the three powers which includes legislation, jurisdiction, administration. These played a pivotal role by collecting money or planning things. Also, they led the entire independence movement by collecting people and make higher ability with them to fight with Japan.

Although the government faced several crises of disintegration due to endless conflicts and internal strife like having different opinions in one plan since its establishment, it has played a major role as the core of the Korean people's independence movement for 27 years.

We must further develop our country in the future by honoring the souls of these patriotic ancestors.
