The need for wise measures against school violence

There’s been a revelation of so many problems in the schools recently involving school violence. Numerous measures have been poured out to eradicate school violence, starting after the 2011 suicide of a middle school student in Daegu.

These revelations point out athletes and entertainers as perpetrators for the 2011 suicide in Daegu. The battle for truth about it has not stopped. Those identified as perpetrators are now in their 20s.

The seriousness of school violence

After the suicide of a middle school student in Daegu in 2011, many school violence measures emerged. These measures included conducting a survey about school violence, deploying school police, and expanding the installation of CCTVs in schools.

However, all of this was not helpful to the victims.

All these measures were focused on punishing perpetrators. No one’s student records had the information about them bullying or harming others. No school police had to handle the school violence situations at the schools since the perpetrators were not punished.

All of these things make the victim more distressed. No one wants to admit that what he or she went through was violence.

The goal of the policy of intervening in school violence should not only focus on the punishment of perpetrators, but should be changed to support the victims. So that the victim doesn’t think the pain he or she suffers is “minor”. And even if they can’t point out a particular perpetrator, they can comfortably tell school officials or school police about the violence they have experienced and get the proper help such as listening to victims.
