Chat GPT for Student Development?
written by 20417 Lee Seohyeon
Chat GPT, which helps people get an answer or give some feedback, etc., has been getting attention to whether Chat GPT helps students develop or not.
So, because of the summarizing of information, students can apply important main concepts to their problems in a short period of time, or they can find out what questions to ask in order to get the result they want.
Furthermore, students can experience and prepare for difficult conversation demonstrations like debates or interviews and receive feedback immediately by using Chat GPT.
Students who prepare for interviews or debates have been able to mimic how to effectively show their application and résumé, which can have limits to convey their careers, strengths, etc. Also, they learn how to deal with challenging situations that cannot be easily experienced through conversations by using Chat GPT. Like being asked unexpected questions during the interview and debate.
Then, does Chat GPT only have advantages and help students develop? The answer to this question is, in fact, NO.
Joshua Wilson, a professor of education at Delaware University, expressed concern and said, “Chat GPT can make students lose the way they think by skipping the course and jumping to the finished product. Furthermore, the process of thinking about the subject and considering it is gone.”
Wilson pointed out that it becomes difficult to develop logical and critical thinking skills, and people who are in education mentioned that students have difficulties with a willingness to explore or deduce a conclusion on their own since students start using Chat GPT.
Lastly, it is said that students who prepare for discussions, etc., can prepare through conversation with Chat GPT by using specific roles that students give. However, there are frequent instances where Chat GPT’s answer includes misinformation or becomes ambiguous because Chat GPT cannot confirm if the sentence is true or not.
Apparently, an X user asked Chat GPT about a non-existent historical event, and as if it had actually happened. Chat GPT gave the time of the occurrence and named people.
Also, when asked about a book’s plot, Chat GPT gave incorrect answers, misnaming the main character and including non-existent content.
These errors in Chat GPT can create negative situations like learning biased or wrong information or thoughts in which students need to think or explore something based on accurate information.
Therefore, Chat GPT can help students get the points as soon as possible or develop their ability to give feedback by themselves.
But, it can also degrade students’ ability to think critically, solve problems independently and give false information as if it were true, causing them to have wrong and or biased information.
In addition, students have to note that Chat GPT is an AI to assist us and that human critical thinking and judgment must used along with it.
Chat GPT Helps Students Develop
By asking a question to Chat GPT, it helps students quickly identify the core content of answers by summarizing a vast amount of information when the available resources on the Internet are not well-represented.So, because of the summarizing of information, students can apply important main concepts to their problems in a short period of time, or they can find out what questions to ask in order to get the result they want.

Chat GPT Degrades Students’ Development
There is a possibility that students may lose their problem-solving ability because they would not spend time practicing finding the answers they need on their own or thinking critically.Joshua Wilson, a professor of education at Delaware University, expressed concern and said, “Chat GPT can make students lose the way they think by skipping the course and jumping to the finished product.
