Marketing of the 4th Industrial Revolution

Image
written by 10702 Kim Min Joo The incorporation of A.I. into marketing may seem a little unfamiliar. However, A.I. marketing is hidden in our daily lives. What Is A.I. Marketing? A.I. marketing is literally marketing using artificial intelligence. It has the biggest features of marketing techniques that incorporate A.I technology. It is to conduct super-personalized marketing that suits individual customers. It can be done by analyzing vast amounts of data based on A.I.’s ability to process and learn unstructured information. This allows marketers to identify customers’ “needs” and “wants” more quickly and accurately. The Example of AI Marketing Do you enjoy Burger King hamburgers? Burger King’s A.I. marketing case is a bit unusual. It did not use an online homepage or mobile environment. It used A.I. technology by using “video advertisement” itself. In the ad, there is a voice saying “Ok Google, explain the Whopper.” A.I. recognized this voice and activated many consumers’ Google Home.

Part 6: Editorial Corner

written by 10702 Kim Min Joo, 10801 Kang Seo Rin, 20121 Lee Go Eun, 20321 Yim Tae Hee & 20720 Jeong Da Eun Here is final part of the six-part series on students going physically to school. (10702 Kim Min Joo) During online classes, I could not feel the interaction in any aspect of learning. For instance, we cannot immediately ask the teacher what we don’t know, and the tension in class can be lowered, and concentration can also be lowered. During physical classes, the part pointed out above can be realized. Also, it provides a range to further develop not only studying aspects but also companionship and priest relationships. Therefore, I think physical classes that can grow in many areas will be more suitable for us.   (10801 Kang Seo Rin) Online classes are the best alternative to offline classes, but offline ones are the best learning format for students I think. Because schools have been a place where students and teachers freely communicate without any obstacles or interrupti

Part 5: Better Learning Environment For Students

The invention of vaccinations has also affected the format of learning, but there are many drawbacks to online classes. The learning performance can drop during the classes for students who are not good at self-directed learning. If that happens, students lack interest or motivation for studying. A learning gap will occur between students. Students get simpler assignments than physical school for online classes. It makes students idle. If they postpone their assignments, they will not fully understand the contents of classes. Therefore, a learning gap will appear for students. There are lots of advantages of going to school. For instance, we often describe the school as small-scale societies. And it means the school is pretty important for students to develop interpersonal skills and s

Some argue that it is never a good idea to send all the students to school when the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases is still at a dangerous level. But, unfortunately, those people are obscuring the larger truth. More and more people are getting vaccinated at a remarkable rate, and students between 12 and 17 would soon be able to get their shots as of October 18 th . Given this, the spread of the disease would gradually subside, eventually making an environment safe enough for students to go to school. However, there is an even more crucial reason students should be physically at school rather than taking online classes at home. Students who take online classes lack proper education, and their understanding is much lower than those who go to school. According to a survey by Jeonbuk In

The number of confirmed students has remained at 200 a day over the past week amid the continuing spread of COVID-19 infections in October. According to the Ministry of Education, on October  14 th ,    a total of 1,485 middle and high school students nationwide tested positive for COVID-19 during the week from the 7th to the 13th of October. The cumulative number of confirmed students since March is 23,624.

Release Radioactive Water into Ocean

Image
written by 20121 Lee Go Eun Japan decided to release radioactive water into the ocean, even though there were concerns from nearby countries like Korea and China.  This radioactive water is residual from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Disaster. This disaster was caused by the East Japan earthquake and tsunami in 2011.  Since then, most of the power plants located in the Fukushima area eventually closed and left a million tons of water used to cool the melted reactors. Japan had collected this radioactive water in their tanks since the incident, however, it is said that now they are lacking space for the provisional storage.  Also, what Japan is pointing out is that, since power plants are mostly used for only 30 years, the Fukushima Power Plant also has to be ready for their shutdown. Thus, they have to deal with the radioactive water issue as soon as possible.  However, nearby countries are still concerned even though Japan said that from the water purification, the waters are

Part 2: Side Effects of Face-to-Face Education

All s chools nationwide should not carry out face-to-face education during the pandemic due to the reason of riskiness and the merit of online education. There is no good reason to endure numerous risks derived from the virus and force students to attend school in person. The pandemic isn’t over. Millions of people around the world are still getting infected and dying from the deadly virus. Thus, forcing the students, regardless of age, to physically attend school every single day is merely a shortcut to increasing the infections. Although some people for offline education might claim that vaccines would make students safe, most of the students in Korea are not vaccinated. Not only the students, since South Korea is still ranking low for the worldwide vaccination rate, students are also at

It was natural for students to go to school, but COVID-19 made it difficult for students to go to school. Recently, however, South Korea’s education minister has been pushing for full-scale schooling. According to NEWSIS, the Ministry of Education said that the number of students who have confirmed COVID-19 due to the fourth epidemic has increased, but it will promote the expansion of school attendance as fewer confirmed cases than adults and more families and communities. The Opinion department of the PRESS will explore both sides in a six-part series.

Part 5: Dark Sides of the Metaverse

Image
written by 10702 Kim Min Joo, 10801 Kang Seo Rin, 20121 Lee Go Eun, 20321 Yim Tae Hee & 20720 Jeong Da Eun Here is final part of the five-part series on the virtual world being a blessing or a curse. Some people view the metaverse as a new opportunity to expand their range of daily lives. Those people say that people can meet their friends, watch famous singers’ performances, and even attend company meetings in the metaverse. However, despite all the potential benefits of the metaverse, there are still some reservations about it. Are You Sure About Your Security? The biggest problem is the uncertainty of ensuring the security of the data. Since the metaverse is based on a massive amount of data, guaranteeing the security of the data is the top priority. However, the metaverse is vulnerable to hacking and exploitation of data since the technology is still under development. In August 2020, hackers got into the U.S. online game Roblox system. They exposed explicit images and racist

Part 4: Virtual Reality for MZ Generation

written by 10702 Kim Min Joo, 10801 Kang Seo Rin, 20121 Lee Go Eun, 20321 Yim Tae Hee & 20720 Jeong Da Eun Here is part four of the five-part series on the virtual world being a blessing or a curse.  The Metaverse A lot of things have changed since the 21st century began. The 4th Industrial Revolution is where the boundaries between the physical, digital, and biological worlds are getting blurry. The technologies that are developing are Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), 3D printing, robotics, virtual reality, and more. Of course, these have their own pros and cons and are being used in numerous places. However, among these, virtual reality is what people started paying more attention to due to the pandemic. To be more specific, the MZ generation pays the most attention to virtual reality since it enables a wide range of things. Thus, socially influential companies, politicians, and even the MZ generation invested in this technology. Mark Zuckerberg, the CE

Part 3: How Millennials and Gen Z Express Themselves

written by 10702 Kim Min Joo, 10801 Kang Seo Rin, 20121 Lee Go Eun, 20321 Yim Tae Hee & 20720 Jeong Da Eun Here is part three of the five-part series on the virtual world being a blessing or a curse.  These days, Millennials and Gen Z constantly use social media (SNS) and utilize various information that they can get on the Internet. Their use of the Internet has made virtual technology fully operational. Many enterprises have created virtual influencers (VI) and some unique programs that are virtual-designed. With the emergence of these things, our lives have become different a lot. Who Are They? Millennials are people born between the years 1980 and 1995. Gen Zs are people who were born between 1996 and 2012. These generations are often tech-savvy and tend to accept scientific developments like SNS easily. What new thing do they go crazy over? One of the most famous VIs in the world is Lil Miquela from the U.S. She has three million followers on Instagram — most of whom are MZ ge

Part 2: The Evil Effects of Virtual Reality

written by 10702 Kim Min Joo, 10801 Kang Seo Rin, 20121 Lee Go Eun, 20321 Yim Tae Hee & 20720 Jeong Da Eun Here is part two of the five-part series on the virtual world being a blessing or a curse.  As virtual reality arises, not only good changes have occurred in the MZ generation. If virtual reality is highlighted as a new technology, technologies that existed in the past can become less marketable. For example, since the advent of digital music (MP3), the number of the physical music stores has been greatly reduced. This will also reduce the diversity of jobs that many Millennials and Gen Z can choose from. Virtual reality professions include virtual reality experts, virtual reality designers, and web developers, etc. Gamers who participate in virtual reality games say they have an amazing experience in real life. However, according to the Brookings Institute of Social Sciences, virtual reality exposes numerous ethical problems in various fields, including games and performanc

Virtual World: Blessing or Curse? (Part 1)

Image
written by 10702 Kim Min Joo, 10801 Kang Seo Rin, 20121 Lee Go Eun, 20321 Yim Tae Hee & 20720 Jeong Da Eun These days, most people — especially Millennials and Generation Z — use social media and utilize various information from the Internet. In March 2020, UC Berkeley built a campus in Minecraft on the verge of canceling its graduation ceremony due to COVID-19. Graduates attended the commencement as avatars, received diplomas directly from the president, and listened to congratulatory speeches from key figures. As such, virtual reality is increasingly used. Therefore, it is necessary to think about the impact of the virtual world created by the developing technology. The Opinion department of the PRESS will explore both sides in a five-part series.

Street Woman Fighter and Dance

This show had eight female dance crews (Prowdman, Want, LaChica, CocaNbutter, YGX, HolyBang, Hook, and WayB) competing to take first place and win the prize money.    The dance crews showcased various street dances, which were unfamiliar to domestic viewers who were used to K-pop choreography.   Street Woman Fighter  has received positive reviews from viewers worldwide because it showed all kinds of dancing, such as waacking, hip hop, etc. Viewers would not have known about some of these dances before watching the program. Also, viewers got to learn more about dancers.   Waacking   Waacking got attention initially because of the legendary battle between Lip J (from Prowdman) and Rozalin (from Want) and the battle between Lip J and Peanut (from LaChica).   According to Dance Australia, waacking is a form of dance that originated in Califo

Learn Languages with Netflix

Image
written by 10726 Hong Se Eun   Shadowing: learning languages through the screen is already a world-widely known way. This is one of the most effective ways to learn languages. Now, as streaming services such as Netflix are trending, we have more options to choose from, since the movies we see are not just limited to the theatre. Some people have learned a lot about certain countries’ languages and cultures through TV dramas as well. Here are the top three TV shows that were most worthy of watching in order to learn languages.        1. Emily in Paris ( difficulty level   ⅖) The drama is about an American woman by the name of Emily who goes to Paris for her career and experiences all sorts of things. This show mainly focuses on the cultural differences between the U.S. and France. So Sawlians can catch both birds with one stone. The drama led the audience to learn basic French along with Emily. Also, most of the actors are French. So, the pace they t

Errors in Subtitles

Image
written by 20807 Kim Eun Jae     In the 21 st century, lots of people spend their leisure time watching dramas and movies. Recently, more people are watching more content because there are more platforms than just TV. However, mistakes can be found frequently when translating domestic programs or overseas programs. Some of these errors are not minor but a reminder of painful historical and cultural controversies. Moreover, some of these subtitle errors could lead to significant disputes between countries.   Major Controversies in Subtitles The Korean TV show Bride of the Water God had the wrong French subtitle. When the main character delivered lines, the subtitles wrote “ the Sea of Japan ” instead of “the East Sea ” . This writing is a barbecue stopper. It is because Korea and Japan have historical problems. Each nation strenuously insists that Dokdo and the East Sea are part of their territory. During the Japanese occupation, Japan possessed Korea’s territory,

The Age of the OTT Platforms

Image
written by 20305 Kim Min Chae People are not visiting the cinema and not watching TV. This is because people can easily access any content whenever and wherever they want with their phones. The strong untact winds of COVID-19 have further boosted Over The Top (OTT) growth. The utilization rate of OTT jumped from 36.1% in 2017 to 66.3% last year. As the OTT platform market has grown, many companies are trying to gain the upper hand by jumping into the OTT market. OTT is very diverse with Netflix, Wavve, Seezn, TVING, Watcha and Coupang Play. But it’s hard to tell who’s going to win. Currently, Netflix is still a massively powerful platform in the OTT service industry. But it is now possible that Netflix will not maintain its status. Netflix recently recorded 7.91 million visitors, with 1 million people leaving in five months from 8.99 million visitors. At the same time, the so-called Korean OTT is advancing rapidly. As of May 2021, W

Enjoy Adapting to Untact Environment

written by 10417 Lee Min Jeong   When COVID-19 broke out, schools postponed their openings or turned to online lectures. Companies encouraged telecommuting or introduced video conferencing. Safety messages such as COVID disaster text that come to their smartphones every day became common. In this chaos, people have discovered new aspects of various media, creating their solutions with quick adaptability. Discover New Aspects of the Media The method of meeting someone has changed. Both the entertainment industry and fans have been hit hard with the artists’ schedule changes and the cancellation of overseas tours. However, the development of IT technology is evolving how fans cheer for their celebrities, such as online fan meetings. Students from Dongwoo High School said it was possible for online concerts since they were able to see stage productions and performances that actively utilized the inside of the concert hall. The concert hall used AR when live-streaming the concert.
