When COVID-19 broke out, schools postponed their openings or turned to online lectures. Companies encouraged telecommuting or introduced video conferencing. Safety messages such as COVID disaster text that come to their smartphones every day became common.

In this chaos, people have discovered new aspects of various media, creating their solutions with quick adaptability.

Discover New Aspects of the Media

The method of meeting someone has changed. Both the entertainment industry and fans have been hit hard with the artists’ schedule changes and the cancellation of overseas tours. However, the development of IT technology is evolving how fans cheer for their celebrities, such as online fan meetings.

Students from Dongwoo High School said it was possible for online concerts since they were able to see stage productions and performances that actively utilized the inside of the concert hall. The concert hall used AR when live-streaming the concert. Most of the students responded positively, saying that the stage performance combined with AR made it a different pleasure.

Untact concerts were opened free of charge through live broadcasts. The fans naturally showed enthusiasm for these concerts and online fan meetings.

Zoom telecommuting has been widely used during COVID-19 around the world. Telecommuting was a way for people to physically distance themselves safely from society. Using video chats has now become an ordinary scene in daily life.

CNN reported on March 27^th, 2021, that Zoom, which allows 100 people to participate in video conferences simultaneously, is replacing workplaces such as closed offices and social spaces such as party venues and dating sites to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

People use Zoom as non-face-to-face lectures, studying rooms and classes. They also enjoy the untact culture by creating online spaces such as dining, games, blind dates and movie screenings.

Then, how can we play games on Zoom?

We can play a drawing game using a whiteboard. It is a game in which one person presents a topic, and another person completes a picture within a given time. And the rest of the people guess what the drawing is. Another game is to predict what the picture is by enlarging it to the maximum. Like this, we can also play various activities on Zoom.

Online shopping has also reached a high. As time spent at home increases, the door to online shopping is opening wider. According to data from the National Statistical Office in June 2021, food services, home appliances, electronic devices, clothing and household goods accounted for the trend of online shopping.

In May 2021, the National Statistical Office announced that online shopping transactions reached high points. In particular, it turned out that most of the online orders related to food services are made through mobile apps. Therefore, people created a unique untact culture using online delivery services.

 

What Should We Do in the Future?

Through the new media aspect, we can find a way to share a variety of information faster than anyone else and try to somehow create joy in a gloomy social environment.

A new aspect of media discovered by COVID-19 raises further questions about what form the media should aim for. The problem is that people can find many answers to this. There is no eternal winner or loser. We have to find answers, but there is no correct answer. Instead, we have to think diversely to find answers.
