10122 Jung Minji Everything was not easy, but I’m glad to complete my writing. While working with my seniors and friends, I could learn how to cooperate. I would like to say thank you to those who helped me to complete the articles.   10206 Kim Minchae Although it has only been a short time since I joined the club, I learned how to write articles while writing various articles. I think it was an opportunity to investigate and examine what is happening in our country in more detail. My dream was to be a reporter, so I felt like I learned a lot in the club.   10207 Kim Sangeun It was a short time, but I could learn a lot from The PRESS . A Little Happiness in the Dorms

written by 20224 Jun Min Ah Before Self Study Before the first evening self-study at 7:30 p.m., students spend their time in their own way. Some students lie on their beds and watch YouTube videos or listen to music like at home. Other students take a shower and get ready for self-study. Additionally, some students spend their time with friends by taking a walk, talking with each other, doing assignments, etc. For Sawlians, this time is chilling and relaxing. 20312 Baek Minjoo The Press: What do you do before the self-study at 7:30 p.m.? Baek:  I usually take a shower after dinner. Then, rest on my bed. PRESS: Interesting. Then, what is the best thing to do when getting rest? Baek: I think talking with my friends in the common area is the best thing when I am in the dormitory! After Self Study After both sessions of self-study end at 11:20 p.m. It is the end of the day for all of the students in SAWL. Some students study or do some other school activity after thi

Reinvigorate Yourself with Sports

Image
written by 10316 Shin Jaeyong Most of the events during the first semester at SAWL were canceled due to the COVID-19 spread. However, this did not stop students from finding ways to enjoy sports. This past July, there was a basketball game in the SAWL gymnasium. Nine first-grade students and seven teachers played. There were several more players to relieve the squad when they got tired. The idea of playing a game was first thought to encourage students to fight against the pandemic together. This match gave students who like sports a chance to show their talent and enjoy their hobby. Manners and safety measures were strictly enforced during the game. Both sides could mutually feel respect and honor. Right before the match ended, some clutch time spirit activated and made the game intense and fun, making the audience go wild. This was a game of passion. It helped our students to get to know each other more. Students and the teachers also got to know each other better. Even

Small Events Big Smiles

Image
written by 10318 Oh Su-a When 2020 began, most of the 15 th generation could not wait to enter SAWL in March and meet their classmates. Unfortunately, COVID-19 spread throughout Korea, and no first-year Sawlians could go physically to school until June. If they did not personally meet physically, most students could only meet each other through Zoom classes. The problem with Zoom was that their faces are in small rectangles. It made the students awkward and uneasy when they first physically all met in June. Nevertheless, the 15 th generation became remarkably close and intimate in a short period. They found happiness in their lives through their classmates.   Manito Most first-grade classes had a project known as “Manito,” which means “secret friend” in Spanish. While doing it, students wrote a letter, gave sweets, or helped their manito, making their bonds stronger. For example, students could handprint their manito and other friends to avoid doubt. The people who h

4 Things for a Convenient SAWL Life

Image
written by 20801 Kim Gawoon   Sawlians are enjoying their lives at SAWL, but some of them could feel maybe something is missing. You might wonder, “Is there a more convenient way for my SAWL life?” Here are four things that make life at SAWL more convenient for you. Your experience at SAWL will indeed become even more comfortable 1. Folders SAWL has several teachers in charge of each subject and a tremendous amount of handouts given in each subject. Accordingly, accidents often occur in which printed matter is mixed up with other classes or lost. Folders are essential in preventing such accidents. The types of files, such as transparent files, binders and L-shaped files, are irrelevant. Still, it would be best to use them with the title of the clear file in between the binders to keep things organized.   2. Cushion Apart from sleeping hours, Sawlians spend most days sitting. The chairs in the classroom and the study room are hard, so when students sit for a long time, t

1cm Diving Is the Key to Happiness

Image
written by 20224 Jun Min Ah Have you ever heard of 1cm diving ? It means a tiny piece of happiness out of your life. Everyone around the world has been experiencing the pandemic since December of last year. It might make some people unhappy. There could be those who have difficulties in achieving their goals. Others may feel disappointed about not achieving their goals or just the year in general. However, we do not have to be sad and lose hope. Trying just one thing can be worthy and be the start of your significant positive outcome. Even though it can be seen as trivial, it is better than doing nothing. There is a saying, “Well begun is half done.” This expression is especially needed for this year; it was inevitable to have a problem with our plans. To stop the spread of the pandemic, we have to follow some rules and regulations. These regulations require some limits for our lives. Therefore, we do not have to blame ourselves when things go amiss. Then, how can we overcome o

For Sawlians

Image
written by 20224 Jun Min Ah THE PRESS: What was your first impression of SAWL? Vice-Principal Kang Hojin: When I worked as a researcher of foreign languages in Gyeonggi-do educational office, I visited SAWL. My first impression was that the school is like a university campus. After being appointed to SAWL, I was surprised that students keep the school clean. Also, the website for our school was well-organized, and it gave me another good impression of being here. The students were interested in languages and made efforts for the school’s lessons. I am so proud of Sawlians. PRESS: Do you have any plans for SAWL? Vice-Principal : Although I’ve started to work here three months ago, I know that various education processes are proceeding in a good way. So, as the vice-principal of SAWL, I will help teachers and students with running the current curriculums well. And, after some more months of being here, if we need something new, I will make that happen. PRESS: Do you have any

Sawlians Are ほこり

written by 20203 Kim Seoyeong     The PRESS: What are the advantages of our school students? Principal Seo Dongshin: Our students are excellent in many ways, and most of them seem to be able to collaborate. Since most students live with many friends both in the dorms and classrooms and have classes with many teachers, I think their collaboration skills have developed. Since this collaboration is related to consideration for each other, it seems that consideration is also an advantage for students in our school.   PRESS: What is the most memorable activity with the students you have had so far? Principal: The most memorable is the international exchange that reveals the characteristics of foreign language high schools. It was the first international exchange in 2016 that was the most memorable for me. It was awe-inspiring to see students communicate and interact with people from other countries through a foreign language they learned for a short time. It is the most memor
