Refugee : Accept or Not? - written by 10219 Jung Kyumin

Refugee: Accept or Not? written by 10219 Jung Kyumin It seems that many people are talking about this issue without fully knowing about refugee issues and Muslim religion. There are many unfounded stories about refugees in Yemen. As the number of Muslim refugees increases, many people believes that sex offenses increase and Koreans lose their jobs. Even now, there are many Muslims living in Korea, but there is no statistically high rate of crime for Muslims in our society. With the controversy over the issue of accepting refugees in Jeju Island, justice minister Park Sang-ki is on the Blue House SNS program 11:50 am Presidential Office to answer the national petition for abolition of refugee applications. According to the national answer, Korea will strengthen the examination. Regarding the worries about false refugees, Park Sang-ki, Minister of Justice, emphasized that Korea government will strengthen the verification of identity such as compulsory submission of SNS accoun

Are You Sleeping Enough? - written by 10812 Park Chaerin

Are You Sleeping Enough? written by 10812  박채린 The most difficult part of their school SAWLIANS experience is the lack of sleep. Most Sawlians go to sleep after 1:00a.m., and at 6:30 a.m. every morning, they get up by dragging their tired bodies and rubbing their sleepy eyes. It is not just students from SAWL. The busy people in our country always complain about the lack of sleep. How long do people in Korea sleep? The average sleep time is 7 hours and 40 minutes for Koreans . Our sleep time is the last among OECD countries. It is also the last among 15 Asian Pacific nations. The Education Ministry surveyed 82,000 students at 765 schools nationwide, with 3% of elementary school students, 12% of middle school students, and 40% of high school students are sleeping no more than 6 hours a day. This result is quite shocking. The reason why Korean s can't sleep is because of constant competition, busy work, and education . So why is the situation so problematic?

Rising Sun Controversy - written by 10219 Jung Kyumin

Rising Sun Controversy written by 10219 Jung Kyumin The Rising Sun Flag was a flag that Japan used when they invaded Asian countries during World War II. In other words, it is similar to Hakenkreuz (Swastika) which is now banned from being used since it was the symbol used in World War II by Germany. Unlike Germany, Japan allowed the symbol to be used for commercial purposes. Therefore many companies, including famous clothing companies, use this symbol as a design on their products. For instance, Adidas sold the products with the rising sun mark which caused controversy in the fashion industry. It is the design that adds the shape of the light around the red sun of the Japanese flag. Also there was a controversy about the sale of T-shirts, which included a red sun flag of Japan, by the American footwear and clothing manufacturer Rakai. However the next controversy was not only about Rising Sun being a commercial design but also being the national naval mark. The rais

The Press Around The World - written by 10422 Choi Sohi, 10603 Min Jungyeoun, 10812 Park Cherin, and 20114 Youn Jiwon

The Press Around The World   written by 10422 Choi Sohi, 10603 Min Jungyeoun, 10812 Park Cherin, and 20114 Youn Jiwon Eyes and ears; they allow human to see and hear the things around them. With our two eyes, we can see things critically and directly. With our two ears, we can hear things personally and quickly. This is exactly what the press is like. Just like eyes and ears, the press lets people know what is happening, even on the opposite side of the globe. The press is the main means of the mass media that deliver information to the public. The term "press" in Korean law refers to periodicals such as broadcasting, newspapers, magazines, news communication, and online news sites (Article 2, Paragraph 1 of the Act on Press Arbitration and Damage Relief). In an increasingly advanced society, individuals are becoming more and more busy living their own lives, making it difficult to know or understand about issues of society. In addition, even though we ar

Korean Literature Considered as a Failure? written by 20721 Choi Soohyun It’s Hallyu fever all around the globe. From music to drama to food, Korean culture is spreading fervently at a noticeable speed. K-pop groups are making their way to the Billboards. K-dramas are spreading across all media platforms including Netflix. Korean cuisine is capturing both Eastern and Western tastes. However, what critics say is the essence of Korean culture is neglected. Korean literature, despite the favorable appraisal it receives, is still struggling to secure its place in foreign markets. Contending with 1,003 TVs - written by 20522 Chang Gyumin

Contending with 1,003 TVs written by 20522 Chang Gyumin The Birth of the Historic TV Tower It was in 1988 that the world-wide symbolistic historic video-art installation was completely constructed. Dadaikseon (The More the Better) was created by Nam June Paik, a Korean-American artist who is widely regarded as a pioneer in video-art, and supported by Won Kim, a Korean architect. It was made with 1,003 CRT TV sets in a circular tower, each showing eight different videos Paik had taken for his former works. It i s significant for integrating video and art to open a new indicator for world art history. He mentioned that, just as collage replaced oil painting in modern art, CRT would supplant canvas, so a TV monitor equals an artists’ canvas and instead of working on a canvas with paints it is done with a synthesizer. Screens on the TVs of Dadaikseon serve it. Nevertheless, now the meaning he desired became nothing anymore. Declaration of the Tower’s Death In February
