Are You Sleeping Enough?

written by 10812 박채린
The most difficult part of their school SAWLIANS experience is the lack of sleep. Most Sawlians go to sleep after 1:00a.m., and at 6:30 a.m. every morning, they get up by dragging their tired bodies and rubbing their sleepy eyes. It is not just students from SAWL.
The busy people in our country always complain about the lack of sleep.
How long do people in Korea sleep?
The average sleep time is 7 hours and 40 minutes for Koreans.
Our sleep time is the last among OECD countries. It is also the last among 15 Asian Pacific nations.
The Education Ministry surveyed 82,000 students at 765 schools nationwide, with 3% of elementary school students, 12% of middle school students, and 40% of high school students are sleeping no more than 6 hours a day. This result is quite shocking.
The reason why Koreans can't sleep is because of constant competition, busy work, and education. So why is the situation so problematic?
The dictionary’s definition of sleep is "closed eyes and rest of consciousness." That means sleep is rest.
According to the dictionary meaning, modern people do not get a good rest.

The Health Reasons for Sleep

While we sleep, our heart rate slows, and our heart stops. Also, the brain waves slow down and the brain relaxes. And while sleeping, the information is rearranged. The process of converting or erasing a day's work into long-term memory is divided into necessary and unnecessary. Sleep also plays a role in restoring the body's pain. Through sleep, our bodies relax and automatically recover the damaged body. This way, our bodies strengthen our immune system during sleep. Lack of sleep can lead to impaired immune systems.
It is very sad that students SAWL are missing such important and necessary sleep.
You should find the right amount of sleep for yourself and try to stay healthy with sleep. Many students think they should reduce their sleep time for studying.
However, this wrong thought can harm your health and also your grade!
Rather than trying to reduce sleep, you should not forget that getting enough sleep with more concentration when you are awake is more efficient for your health and learning.
So, why don’t you use your break time to study? You may think that10-minute-break is not useful to study, but it is actually wrong!
With ten minutes, you can blink your eyes 150 times. You can exercise with jump rope about 600 times!
From now on, try to use your golden time, the BREAK TIME.
