New SAWL in 2019 written by 20603 Kim Seonwoo
Sawl has changed a lot every year, and 2019 is not exception. Some of the changes have made Sawlians more comfortable and while others haven’t.
Student Auditor
The student auditor system was introduced in the
second semester with the 15th Student Council being established. The
members who consist of the organization were the delegates from each class.
They were chosen from each class. On average, there is one student of student
auditor in a class. Student auditors elected the leader of the grade.
In 2019, it doesn’t belong to Student Council because
it was established starting during 2nd semester. In 2020, it will be
included as one of the departments in Student Council. Their main role is to
supervise the Student Council. The members also receive ideas or complains from
their class and talk about them at the meeting that is held every month. The
captains from each class also transmit the opinions of classmates, but with the
student auditor, it would be much easier for students to express their
opinions.
Yoojeong Seo, the leader of the 2nd grade
student auditors said, “We monitor the activities of Student Council, collect
and deliver feedback from the students to make the school more advanced.”
She said that they will collect suggestions from an
anonymous chatroom in KakaoTalk and assess the monthly activities of each
department and deliver them to the Student Council through the regular meetings
with student auditors of each class. She also added that Sawlians should know
that the student auditor is an independent department from the student auditor,
and it will always listen to the students, so they should make the most of the
board of student auditors to create and maintain the democratic school.
Study Café on 6th floor
Last year, Sawl Garam, the original book café of Sawl,
was installed, and it became one of the Sawlians’ favorite places to study at.
Since a lot of students want to use that facility, there weren’t a sufficient number
of seats for everyone.
To solve this problem, a new study café was
installed in the hallway on 6th floor. Even though there aren’t
various things such as bookshelves, it’s enough for students to study or to use
their computers. This study café offers WiFi, so it helps students to work with
computers more easily. The passwords are on the wall.
Kim Donghee, 2nd grade student Chinese
major, said that she is one of the users and she would continue to use that
facility.
“The WiFi machine works very well. Also, before the
new study café was installed, there was less space where to use Wifi in Sawl.”
she said. “So, I think that the new study café will be useful for students.”
She also added that if there were an air conditioner
or heater, it would be better.
Book Concert with Authors and Music
On August 26th, the authors of What
Makes Us Human Beings (무엇이
우리를 인간이게
하는가), the book
Sawlians read during the 1st semester, came to Sawl to share the
ideas with students. They also answered students’ questions.
Cheon Ju Hee and Kim Minseob, the two of the eight
authors came and talked about their story such as why they decided to write
about that topic. They also talked about the messages they want to give people
through the stories they wrote. With their personal experiences that they
shared with Sawlians could not only understand the meanings of the book but also
have a chance to think about what makes us human beings.
Also, Simsim project, a fusion music group, also
participate in this concert. The group consists of Jeong Haesim who sings and
plays the Gayageum, Korean traditional instrument, Woojin who arranges the
songs and plays the guitar, and Woozi (Lee Wooyoung) who plays the bass.
The music group and students sang together a song
based on a poem they had read.
Also, Dodream, the Nanta club in Sawl, performed at
the beginning of the concert. There was a photo spot where students could take
pictures. There was a special event where the authors choose one of the book covers
that Sawlians made.
“We are pleased to see these various book covers based
on our story. It’s amazing to see the connotations on your covers. We really
appreciate your efforts. Thank you.” said the authors.
