15th Student Council 2020 Pledges written by 10514 Oh Juyeon

SAWL 15th Student Council members were elected in the 1st semester of 2019, and all the representatives are 13th and 14th Sawlians. There are seven departments in the SAWL Student Council. The representatives of each department publicly promised how they will change SAWL for better with the help from all SAWLIANs. Each of the departments has made promises that are determined to be valid (or after discussion) in 2020.

The Department of Library (도서부): Сreating SAWLIB Information UCC

Until this year, first graders had to read the library usage guide brochure and listen to the librarian explanation. However, many students said that they felt bored and could not understand the guide well. Instead, the brochure will be replaced by a UCC or something else.

Interview Seoyoung Kim, 1st Grade English Major, Vice President of The Department of Library

PRESS: Have first graders actually been bored with the way of explanation?

Kim Seoyoung: When the librarian had an orientation, it was good because the explanation was detailed. However, some students were a little bored, because they just sat and listened to it. Also, the explanation was only in words, I saw that many students had a hard time using the library. Our department was going to make the UCC, however, after discussion, the plan changed.

PRESS: If the Department of Library does not make the UCC, what is the other plan?

Kim: The members of the department are going to make a Powerpoint presentation and they will inform how to utilize SAWLIB in each firstt graders’ class next year.

PRESS: Are there some special reasons for why the deparment has chosen the PPT presentation?

Kim: Our department thought that it will be better if the members directly communicate with students by having they not just listening to the explanation like a lecture but interacting instead.

The Department of Etiquette (예절부): The ‘Rulanda’ Rule (Rule + The Miranda Rule)

This rule was originated from the Miranda Rule. If a student does not follow the school rules, he or she will be notified about the reason why he or she was caught when the student number is written on the list. Members of the Department of Etiquette will tell the student what is right and the penalty unless he or she followed the rule. The Rulanda Rule is going to be valid after further discussion.

The Department of General Affairs (총무부): Organization of Feedback from Representative Conference

Originally, Hey There (이보시게) was posted to prevent the repetition of same suggestions. However, it had a problem with people continuing to say, “We are not going to add any additional comments or proposals about this.” This was considered by many as blocking the students’ right to express their opinions.

In order to solve this and to find better solutions for certain problems, teachers’ feedback from the representative conference will be organized and noticed on the bulletin board.

The Department of Events (행사부): Strengthening the Event Notification

Originally, before the school events, there have been posters to notify students. Small events such as Whoever Busking, however, were not well notified to teachers and even some Sawlians about when and where the events take place. The promotion will be strengthened through the class president and the Department of Events by notifying the date and place about three to five days before the event takes place.

The Department of Education & Information (교육정보부): SAWLIAN Official Instagram

SAWLIAN official Instagram is made for notification of school life and representative conference. There has been SAWL official Facebook Page, however, it had not been utilized as much by current students. Based on the high accessibility of Instagram, official account is now running in private which only allows current Sawlians in the school to following. The ID of the account is sawlian2019.

The Department of Physical Activities (체육부): Stretching Day

Every Monday morning, Sawlians are going to participate in Stretching Day activities, in order to relieve tiredness and to improve the concentration on class. On Stretching Day, the Department of Physical Activities will lead the students by doing the stretching in the classroom while listening to exercise music. SWBC and the Student Council will collaborate on music or each class will autonomously play what they want.
