Beirut’s Explosion: Sorrowful Implications

written by 10226 Choi Siyoung There was an explosion in Beirut, Lebanon, on August 4 th at 6:07 p.m. More than one hundred thirty-five people were killed, and five thousand people were wounded. The explosion damaged buildings as far as ten kilometers away. This incident left three hundred thousand people homeless.  The explosion formed a huge crater that is one hundred twenty-four meters in diameter. The exact cause of the explosion has not been found yet. However, people speculate it to be caused by the ammonium nitrate in a vessel that was stranded in the port for years. They say the blast is because of the government’s negligence. The people speculate the explosion could have been prevented if the government had listened to the repeated warnings. Investigators found out that a massive shipment of agricultural fertilizer was stored in the port. The port authorities say that the fertilizer was stored in the ship without safety precautions for years, despite local officials’ war

In Suffolk, the New Market Library staff found it interesting to see that their books were arranged in book size order rather than by topic and book number. James Powell, who works at the library, said, “They will have enough time to organize the books because the library is likely to be closed for the time being.” More than 5,000 Twitter posts were shared the New Market Library tweet and incident about the enthusiastic cleaner. They were unable to do what they did naturally and generally in the past. After the extended regulations, many complaints and anger built up in people’s minds.   Confined at Home COVID-19 penetrated lives by keeping people apart due to the spread of infection. Everyone had to remain safely in their own houses. Therefore, people cannot do activities where many people can gather, such as visiting tourist attractions and club activities. If one person is infected and goes to those places, the virus can spread rapidly to others. We have to do social distancing in order to prevent the spread. Therefore, we cannot go to crowded places and travel. As a result, tourist attractions and resorts have become taboo in the social distancing world.   The expression “going out to play with others” became a cautious and dangerous phrase. P

Developed nations such as the United States (U.S.), the European Union (E.U.) and Japan are buying all of the COVID-19 vaccines in advance. It is expected that pharmaceutical companies will barely produce 1 billion units in the next two years. However, 1.3 billion units have been sold in advance to developed nations. On August 2 nd Bloomberg reported that wealthy countries such as the U.S., Japan, and the E.U. have signed contracts of purchasing 1.3 billion purchases of COVID-19 vaccines with pharmaceutical companies. Other countries will be stomping their feet because they cannot get the vaccine due to these developed nations’ presells. Preordering the COVID-19 vaccines seems to be most active in the U.S. The U.S. spent $8 billion on securing vaccines due to its ranking as number one with the most COVID-19 cases. Therefore, the problem of going to school came up seriously. People were concerned about children going to school since they could quickly be exposed to or carriers of the virus. Usually when they are in 2 nd grade, they go to a country that uses the language that they have been studying to directly learn about that culture. While they are there in those countries, they make new memories with their classmates.  Since the second-grade Sawlians could not travel abroad this year due to  COVID-19, the PRESS has recommended some travel places to go to after the pandemic is over. In the second-part of the series, we would like to recommend three places to visit in France. 1. The Palace of Versailles The Palace of Versailles is considered one of the most beautiful palaces.   written by 10420 Lee Seungho   Many people like sports. Sawlians have watched sports even though they like different sports, teams, and players. This year is not a good time for sports fans. The number of COVID-19 confirmed cases was increasing rapidly recently. Social distancing policies in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do were then upgraded to the second level. Sports games with spectators in the stands are banned. There are many restrictions on watching sports games directly this year because sports stadiums attract large crowds, increasing the chances of infection. The best thing is to cheer for your favorite team or player at home instead of going to the stadium. Still if enthusiastic fans who must watch it in the stadium, then they need to follow some precautions in order not to get sick. These precautions cannot be said to guarantee their safety, but they will greatly reduce the chances of infection.
