This is part two of a three part series about the global project that was launched in August 2020. This global project was launched about the book every Sawlian learned during class time, A Long Walk to Water. Since all Sawlians had read it, anyone could join the project. Students could organize their team to three people maximum.

Among the many teams that participated in the global project competition, one group wrote a report about child refugees through the Instagram promotion.

The PRESS interviewed Yu Min,  a 2nd Grade Chinese Major. Yu Min is the representative of sawl_childrefugee_withsalva.

Press: Briefly introduce sawl_childrefugee_withsalva.

Yu Min: Sawl-childrefugee-withsalva worked on the theme of child refugees in the Global Project. My team consists of Woo Dayeon, Hong Seoyeon, and me. We produced and posted card news on Instagram and other SNS sites in order to promote child refugee’s life, education for child refugees, child refugee soldiers, and child refugee-related campaigns.

Press: What made your team choose this theme?

Yu: After reading the book A Long Walk to Water, we were truly touched by Salva’s story. After reading the scene of young Salva struggling across the river was impressive, and after seeing the scene, we were conscious of the seriousness of child refugees. So we decided to do this theme.

Press: Your team name is unique. Why did your team choose that team name?

Yu: Actually, we decided on our team name when we made our mind map. While thinking of words related to child refugees, we remembered the main character of the book we read, Salva. Just as Salva helped Sudanese children when he grew up, we decided to name the team in order to help child refugees.

Press: What effect do you expect from doing this project?

Yu: The most important thing is for people to have a good understanding of child refugees. This problem requires people’s attention because it requires the efforts of many people. So we want people to see our activities and be interested in children and refugees.
