What is Wee-Class?

The Wee-Class is a system that provides separate programs. It is a communication space where students can share various concerns such as friendship and career with counselors, and counseling and education programs are operated through counseling rooms at their schools to improve self-esteem and sociality. It is a multiple integrated support service that supports students’ healthy and enjoyable school life in connection with schools, education offices and local communities. It started operating in 1,530 schools in March 2010, and has since gradually expanded to all elementary, middle and high schools nationwide.

Sawl’s Wee-Class

SAWL’s Wee-Class was originally on the fifth floor. But it moved to the second floor this year. There are various things inside Wee-Class such as candies, tea bags, board games, etc. Also, those who have concerns in their daily and school lives can consult with their teachers through application. Sawlians who often go there said it was good to have fun with their friends in a free atmosphere.

There are times when there are special events. Around Halloween, the inside of Wee-Class was decorated with a Halloween atmosphere.

Interview with Wee-Class teacher, Kim Ji Yeong

The PRESS: What is the exact meaning of Wee-Class?

Kim Ji Yeong: Wee-Class is the place for counseling. However, that is not the end. Wee is a compound word that combines we, which means us, and the first letter “e” of education. As such, the Wee-Class is a classroom that is created together with education.

The PRESS: Why was the location of the Wee-Class moved?

Kim Ji Yeong: The Wee-Class on the fifth floor was narrow inside, so it had to be used only as a counseling room. Therefore, it could not be a class that was created together. That’s why it moved to realize the true meaning of Wee-Class in a wider and more prominent place.

The PRESS: What does Wee-Class look like during lunch time?

Kim Ji Yeong: Usually, there are not many people, but on days when students are not busy, the classroom is full. Students play board games and have fun together, and the teacher also distributes snacks.

The PRESS: What are the main activities in the Wee-Class?

Kim Ji Yeong: The main activity is counseling. In addition, there are various activities such as psychological tests and friend love events. Activities that provide emotional stability so that students can write well in school life and change their perception of school.

The PRESS: What do you want to say to Sawlians?

Kim Ji Yeong: The space of school may be unfamiliar and burdensome due to its nature, but I hope everyone uses Wee-Class as a comfortable and free space like home and helps them adapt to school life. Please think of me as sometimes a counselor, sometimes a school mom, sometimes a life mentor. I hope SAWL’s Wee-Class will develop into a space where you can stay anytime!

Kim Ji Yeong is so kind and the facilities are good. Hopefully many students become more interested. Lastly, when you have time, make sure to visit and find out for yourself what Wee-Class is like!
