Green Smart School, SAWL

Online education, which developed with the 4th Industrial Revolution, has brought about many changes and confusion due to the global spread of COVID-19. Also, Sawlians often use ZOOM and Google Classroom as online educational platforms.

In accordance with these times, a project is currently being implemented in Korea to pursue a future-oriented curriculum and develop online education. Green Smart Future School is a project that transforms schools into those equipped with more future educational infrastructure.

The Green Smart Future School does not stop at improving old school facilities. It focuses on four key elements: space innovation, smart classrooms, greening and school facility complexation.


Through this, an innovative future-oriented curriculum can be realized, and in this process, students can develop sociability, such as a sense of ownership of the space.


Space Innovation

Space innovation means providing a space for the future school that offers personalized learning and supports educational innovation as a space for a balanced life. Through this, it is possible to create a future school where students can voluntarily study or have a space for cooperative discussion to communicate and exchange.


Smart Classroom

Smart classrooms create smart learning environments suitable for the digital transformation era in connection with the digital new deal project in education. These classrooms aim to create an online and offline convergence environment for educational institutions countrywide and expand educational content. Smart classrooms are promoted by creating a digital-based education infrastructure and strengthening education for universities and vocational training institutions across the country.


Greening


Greening creates architectural design and various environmental education programs so that schools can become learning places for ecological civilization transformation. 


The Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea said, “School buildings can play a leading role in reducing national greenhouse gas emissions, and the aging facility environment can be improved by improving the energy saving factors of existing schools.”


School Facility Complexation


Through school facility complexation, school facilities are shared with the local community so that the school becomes the center of the community and provides programs with a linked local community. For the school to become a core space that improves the lives of students and local residents, cultural welfare facilities are installed in the school. This space is so that students and residents can share it.


How Well Does Our School Fit into the Green Smart Future School? 


A survey was conducted with 50 Sawlians.


86% of students answered that they did not know about Green Smart School. 14% of students knew about Green Smart School, and only 6.5% of students knew about the key elements of Green Smart School.


In the survey, the four key elements of Green Smart School were explained, and the question was asked how well SAWL fits these elements.


Surprisingly, all students who participated in the survey answered the question positively. SAWL was a green smart school that met the four elements. In fact, 64% of students agreed that SAWL is a Green Smart School. 


Currently, some students consider the school to be a Green Smart School, but in the future, SAWL is expected to become a more innovative, future-oriented school than anywhere else.
